For more than 70 years, the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University has prepared over 17,000 banking-industry professionals for the next step in their careers by offering a comprehensive and rigorous course of banker-generalist instruction. Because GSBLSU offers a broad spectrum of bank-management education, our graduates leave their three-year educational and social experiences much more prepared to answer their banks’ calls when a need arises.

However, and for far too long, the banking industry has lacked a “banker-generalist” professional certification that serves to set its designees apart from and above crowd. Now, the Graduate School of Banking at LSU has developed just that – a professional certification that allows its alumni to confidently state, “I am ready for any task my bank assigns me.”

The Chartered Banking Professional (ChBP) certification (offered exclusively by GSBLSU) provides its professional certification holders the ability to continually further their educations and remain knowledgeable of that broad spectrum of bank-management information that they learned while in school. At the same time, it allows others to immediately recognize their accomplishments and abilities via the prominent placement of the initials “ChBP” following their names.

ChBP Eligibility

As reflected below, the Chartered Banking Professional certification offers eligibility to both banking-industry professionals as well as banking-industry educators, provided minimal conditions being met in three areas – experience, education, and examination¹. It should be noted that eligibility is currently offered exclusively to Graduate School of Banking at LSU alumni and instructors (current & former)².

Requirements and Fees

All fees are non-refundable¹ and considered collected upon receipt. Fees may be paid by bank check, personal check, or credit card².

When application (and fee) is received, eligibility will be reviewed by GSBLSU Management. Upon approval, the applicant will be notified and curriculum will be sent. From the date of curriculum delivery, the applicant has up to 270 days (nine months) to make request (via email – using Exam Reservation link) to sit for the exam (consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions – administered electronically). In the case of a failed attempt (grade of <60%), the applicant must wait 90 days before requesting a re-take. Initial and subsequent (re-take) exam fees are $100. Upon successful completion of the exam and payment of designation recording and charter printing fees, as well as first-year dues, the applicant will be granted use of the ChBP designation and will be termed a ChBP Charterholder. The designation will renew annually with

  1. Submission of annual dues ($150)
  2. Resubmission of Professional Conduct Statement (PCS), and
  3. Submission and review of required continuing education (CE) credits. Please see the Annual Renewal Process page for a list of eligible CE-credit activities.

Annual Renewal Process

Recognizing that obtaining the ChBP professional credential is a long-term commitment to one’s career and the banking profession, the designation requires annual Rechartering, the process of renewing the designation through a commitment to integrity/professionalism and ongoing learning and professional development. The rechartering process consists of the following three requirements being completed within 30 days of the renewal date:

  1. Completion of the annual Professional Conduct Statement (PCS),
  2. Payment of the $150 fee for annual dues, and
  3. Completion of at least 12 Credits of continuing education from the list below.
